Durham Cathedral The Cloisters Greeting Card
£3.50
Durham Cathedral The Cloisters Greeting Card. Is an A5 greeting card, with a photograph of one of the wall of the Cloisters of the Cathedral. Strong directional light is coming through the unglazed windows casting strong patterns on the wall and benches. The Cloisters is a covered walkway allowing people a quick way of reaching different parts of the cathedral. This photograph was taken early one morning as the sunlight shone through the unglazed windows. This was a photograph I had wanted to capture for quite a while. This looks like a very simple photograph but getting the angle right and the exposure correct took a while. I always take multiple different exposures, trying to keep detail in the shadows is very important. It would have been very easy for the shadows to go completely black and have no detail in them.
Work to construct this fabulous Norman building, began in 1093 and took about 800 years to complete. It is the shrine and resting place for the remains of St. Cuthbert. The monks of Lindisfarne had spent many years travelling around the North East of England looking for a suitable resting place for this important saint.
Durham Cathedral has featured in many films and TV shows, including the early Harry Potter movies. The cloisters featured in quite a few scenes. Elizabeth and Marvel’s Avengers Endgame. TV shows include ITV’s North East set detective series Inspector George Gently.
