Christmas Bauble Flying Scotsman. A flat, round double sided metal Christmas Bauble with a photograph of the world famous ‘Flying Scotsman’ steam locomotive. This locomotive was named after The Flying Scotsman, train service which was LNER’s express, non-stop service operating between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh station. The locomotive was the first to be recorded at reaching 100mph in 1934. Flying Scotsman, then set a record for the longest non-stop run by a steam locomotive when it ran 422 miles (679 km) on 8 August 1989 while in Australia on tour.
This metal bauble, has the same photograph front and back. Only one side has the text on, reading ‘Flying Scotsman’.
Flying Scotsman started operating with the LNER as an A1 class pacific locomotive, designed by Sir Nigel Gresley in 1923. It was later rebuilt as an updated A3 class design in 1947. It first carried the number 4472, then when British Railways were formed, it was re-numbered 10603, in 1948. It is this number and the British Railways green paint work that is shown in this photograph. This photograph was taken just passed Grosmont Station and its Engine Shed, on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in 2016. With a train service heading to Pickering Station. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway were the first preserved railway to operate the engine after its 10 year restoration project was complete.
Flying Scotsman is now based at the National Railway Museum at York. It can be seen regularly operating on various preserved railways as well as the Main Line, hauling different rail tours.
Christmas Bauble Flying Scotsman, the size of the bauble is 73mm wide and 85mm deep. This bauble comes with a silver metal chain to hang the bauble on the Christmas tree branch.
