Christmas Bauble Newcastle Tyne Bridge & Angel of the North Round Plastic. Free UK shipping. A round, plastic Christmas Bauble with two photographic prints inside. On one side is a daytime photograph of the Angel of the North. This photograph, was taken on a bright, colourful summers afternoon. The statue of the Angel is surrounded on both sides by tree branches. The tree branches and the wings of the Angel, are catching the afternoon light and provide a warm colour contrast against the bright blue of the sky and the large white cloud behind Antony Gormley’s creation. The Angel of the North, has quickly become an iconic image of the North East and is recognised all over the world.

On the other side is a dramatic colour photograph of Tyne Bridge and the Newcastle Gateshead Quayside taken at twilight. The sun has set, leaving a dark sky, contrasting against the artificial lights. The lights inside the span of Tyne Bridge really make it standout against the dark of the sky. The traffic and figures on the quayside footpath and road give this photograph a real sense of life and movement. A high tide and still conditions on the River Tyne produce a very clear reflection of the bridges in the water. Including the walkway and railing helps takes the viewers eyes through this photograph, from front to back, taking you through to Tyne Bridge and the High Level Bridge and Swing Bridge below.

The bridge was designed by the engineering firm of Mott, Hay and Anderson They also designed the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Forth Road Bridge in Scotland. Tyne Bridge is based on their design for the Sydney harbour Bridge. Construction on the bridge started in 1925 and opened in 1928. Tyne Bridge has become the defining symbol of Tyneside.
