Christmas Bauble Newcastle & Tyne Bridge

Christmas Bauble Newcastle & Tyne Bridge. A flat, round, double sided metal Christmas Bauble with a sunset photograph of the Newcastle Gateshead Quayside on one side and a photograph of Tyne Bridge on the reverse. This photograph was taken beside some new apartments along the quayside, looking down across the Newcastle Gateshead Quayside at sunset. From this fantastic viewpoint you can see the whole of the new look quayside. All of the bridges crossing the river tyne are included in this photograph, including the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, the Tyne Bridge, the High Level Bridge and the Swing Bridge. The Tyne and Wear Metro Bridge is only just visible in the far distance. The lights inside the Sage Gateshead building can also be seen on the left of the photograph. There is a clear reflection in the River Tyne from the lights under the walkway part of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, linking the Baltic Arts Centre and the Sage on the Gateshead side of the Tyne to the Newcastle side of the river.

On the other side is a dramatic colour photograph of Tyne Bridge and the Newcastle Gateshead Quayside taken at twilight. The sun has set, leaving a dark sky, contrasting against the artificial lights. The lights inside the span of Tyne Bridge really make it standout against the dark of the sky. The traffic and figures on the quayside footpath and road give this photograph a real sense of life and movement. A high tide and still conditions on the River Tyne produce a very clear reflection of the bridges in the water. Including the walkway and railing helps takes the viewers eyes through this photograph, from front to back, taking you through to Tyne Bridge and the High Level Bridge and Swing Bridge below.

The bridge was designed by the engineering firm of Mott, Hay and Anderson They also designed the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Forth Road Bridge in Scotland. Tyne Bridge is based on their design for the Sydney harbour Bridge. Construction on the bridge started in 1925 and opened in 1928. Tyne Bridge has become the defining symbol of Tyneside.

Newcastle Christmas Bauble, the size of the bauble is 73mm wide and 85mm deep. This bauble comes with a red ribbon to hang the bauble. Text on the bauble reads ‘Newcastle’.
