Durham Cathedral The Nave Card

Durham Cathedral The Nave Card. Is an A5 size greeting card, with a photograph looking through the Nave of the Cathedral, to the High Altar and the stunning Rose Window. The low viewpoint and wide-angle lens help capture the scale and grandeur of this magnificent building. This photograph was taken using the HDR, High Dynamic Range technique. This is were the photographer takes a set of photographs at different exposures to keep detail in both the shadows and highlights. These different exposures are then blended together to create a single image. As well as preserving the highlights and shadow in this photograph, the fantastic stonework of the pillars and the roof show much more detail. It would not have been possible to take a photograph as good as this without using this technique. While this is a straight on photograph, everything works. You just progress through the middle of photograph, taking in the pillars and the roof detail, until you get to the Rose Window in the centre.

Work to construct this fabulous Norman building, began in 1093 and took about 800 years to complete. It is the shrine and resting place for the remains of St. Cuthbert. The monks of Lindisfarne had spent many years travelling around the North East of England looking for a suitable resting place for this important saint.

Durham Cathedral has featured in many films and TV shows, including the early Harry Potter movies, Elizabeth and Marvel’s Avengers Endgame. TV shows include ITV’s North East set detective series Vera.

Durham Cathedral The Nave Card, comes in a clear cello bag, with a white envelope. The size of the greeting card is 210x148mm. The card is left Blank Inside for your own message.

This greeting card from Durham Cathedral is produced by kind permission of the Chapter House of Durham Cathedral. This is one of a wide range of photographs taken inside the Cathedral of both the architecture and the stained glass windows. For more Durham Cathedral interior photographs click here.
