Durham Lumiere Fridge Magnet. Plastic fridge magnet with a nighttime photograph of the riverbanks beside the River Wear, taken during the Durham Lumiere Festival. Durham Cathedral stands majestically above the trees. The Lumiere Festival is held in November, usually every two or three years and runs over four days. It has become a very popular winter event in the city with the displays changing every event. It provides some fantastic nighttime, photographic opportunities. Just have to hope the weather is kind!

The towers of Durham Cathedral dominate above the tree line in this photograph. Below the Cathedral is the Fulling Mill Museum sitting beside the wear, just poking through the trees on the banks of the River Wear. This is a nice bright night-time photograph of this iconic view, taken standing beside the ‘Pink House’. The bright lights installed along both sides of the riverbanks for the Lumiere Festival are reflected in the river wear. The lights installed along the riverbanks vary from yellow to orange to green. The lighting spill into the sky producing a bright orange sky, setting off the towers of Durham Cathedral. Using a wide-angle lens for this photograph includes part of the tree line on both sides of the river. The long exposure has softened both the sky and the water. This also increases the light in the shadow areas, stopping them becoming to dark. The colours also saturate producing a brighter and more punchy coloured photograph than you would see when standing there.
