Metal Bauble Azuma Train Virgin & LNER. A flat, round double sided metal Christmas Bauble with a photograph of a Virgin Trains Azuma Train unit, on one side of the bauble, photographed at Newcastle Central Station. On the opposite side ia a photograph of an LNER Azuma train.
This photograph was taken in January 2018 when Virgin Trains were operating test units of their prototype Azuma trains on the East Coast Main Line. The photograph of the LNER Azuma Train unit, was again photographed at Newcastle Central Station. This photograph was taken in March 2019, after LNER had taken over operating the East Coast Main Line from Virgin Trains.
Virgin Trains no longer operate the East Coast Main Line route from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh, they were replaced by LNER, who brought the Azuma train unto full service. These trains have replaced both the 125 HST units and class 91 electric trains.
The Azuma train is designed and built by Hitatchi. With the components manufactured in Japan and assembled here in the UK. The trains ability to switch from electric to diesel power, allows it to operate on a much wider part of the rail network than the locomotives that it has replaced.
This photograph of the Azuma train in Virgin Trains livery is now something that we will not see again.
Metal Bauble Azuma Train Virgin & LNER, the size of the bauble is 73mm wide and 85mm deep. This bauble comes with a silver metal chain to hang the bauble on the Christmas tree branch.
