The statue designed by Antony Gormley and completed in 1998 has come to be an iconic symbol of the North East. It is the most viewed piece of art in the country. This watercolour painting by local, north east artist Louisa E. Taylor, is part of her ‘Splash of Toon’ range of painting, depicting iconic North East landmarks and views.
Red, yellow and green are the prominent colours in this abstract painting. The two figures at the base of the Angel, really give a sense of scale of the size of the statue. The Splash paint seams to explode out from the sculpture of the Angel into the sky. The base of the painting has different bands of colour running through it. This painting of the Angel of the North, is unique in Louisa’s ‘Splash of Toon’ range of paintings as it only includes one landmark from the North East and is not a montage. This approach is carried over into her ‘Black Splash’ paintings and feature only one single iconic image.
Red Angel watercolour painting, is printed on heavy weight 240gsm matte paper, which cuts down on reflections. Prints are made on an Epson P9000 printer with 11 inks, these give fantastic depth of colour and neutral and punchy black and white prints.
Please note this print comes mounted but not framed. The print comes in an off white, textured mount, ready for framing. Each mounted print is packed with a backing card and is cello bagged to keep it clean. Each mount is titled and signed by the artist.
