Tyne Bridge Metal Keyring. High quality metal keyring in a black gift box. Lovely Newcastle souvenir to keep and use, or to give as a reminder of the Tyne Bridge.
The sun has set, leaving a dark sky, contrasting against the artificial lights. The lights inside the span of Tyne Bridge really make it standout against the dark of the sky. The traffic and figures on the quayside footpath and road give this photograph a real sense of life and movement. A high tide and still conditions on the River Tyne produce a very clear reflection of the bridges in the water. Including the walkway and railing helps takes the viewers eyes through this photograph, from front to back, taking you through to Tyne Bridge and the High Level Bridge and Swing Bridge below. This photograph was taken back in 2008 and is just a timeless view of this iconic Newcastle landmark.
The bridge was designed by the engineering firm of Mott, Hay and Anderson They also designed the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Forth Road Bridge in Scotland. Tyne Bridge is based on their design for the Sydney harbour Bridge. Construction on the bridge started in 1925 and opened in 1928. Tyne Bridge has become the defining symbol of Tyneside.
The four towers, surrounding the bridge, were designed as warehouses with five storeys. But, the inner floors of the warehouses in the bridge’s towers were not completed and, as a result, the storage areas were never used. Lifts for passengers and goods were built in the towers to provide access to the Quayside; they are no longer in use.
Tyne Bridge Metal Keyring, the keyring measures 74x28mm, including the ring. This is the colour photograph version of our popular black and white version.
This photograph is also available as a colour and black and white mounted photographic print, for more details click here.
