This modern window in Durham Cathedral was completed in 1973. The Venerable Bede window in the Galilee Chapel of Durham Cathedral was installed in 1973 to mark the 1300th anniversary of Bede’s birth. This stained glass window wasdesigned by Alan Younger. This modern stained-glass piece features abstract imagery alongside a depiction of a monk at his writing desk, symbolizing Bede’s role as the “Father of English History”.

The stained glass window is located in the Galilee Chapel, of Durham Cathedral, situated near the tomb of the Venerable Bede. It was commissioned to mark the 1300th anniversary of the birth of the Venerable Bede (c. 672/673 AD). It is a 20th-century artistic piece that complements the medieval surroundings of the chapel, focusing on themes of light and learning. It honors Bede’s life and work, particularly his scholarly pursuits as a writer, historian, and theologian.
