Durham Cathedral Mug Setting Sun. 10oz white photo mug with a wraparound panoramic watercolour ‘Splash’ painting of the Durham City skyline. With Durham Cathedral and the Castle as the main elements in this painting by local North East artist Louisa E. Taylor. This colourful and striking painting of Durham features bold, bright and punchy magentas, yellows and oranges. The inclusion of the sun and the light watercolour wash, used on the sky help to soften this painting. This piece of artwork is in contrast to some of her other work which is sometimes softer in colour tones. The body both Durham Cathedral and the Castle are painted in bold, dark, solid colours. The watercolour paint wash then flows down towards the base of the painting from the buildings. The ‘Splash’ effect starts in this paint wash, then continues down to the bottom of the picture. The sky is painted with a watercolour wash, the setting sun is to the right, above Durham Castle. There is just a hint of ‘Splash’ in the sky.
