Durham Cathedral Transfiguration Window Greeting Card. A5 greeting card, with a photograph of the Transfiguration Window created by Tom Denny. This modern window in Durham Cathedral was completed in 2010, after been commissioned by the Friends of Durham Cathedral. The window was created in honour of Bishop Michael Ramsey, and intended to reflect his theological interests, in particular his fascination with the Transfiguration of Christ. The window is located in the South Quire Aisle of the Cathedral, the best place to view the window is from St. Cuthbert’s Shrine, where this photograph was taken. I was stood at the top of the stone steps of the shrine to take this photograph. While this is not a straight on angle, I knew I could correct this later, back on the computer. This is my favourite of the modern stained glass windows inside the Cathedral.

Work to construct this fabulous Norman building, began in 1093 and took about 800 years to complete. It is the shrine and resting place for the remains of St. Cuthbert. The monks of Lindisfarne had spent many years travelling around the North East of England looking for a suitable resting place for this important saint. Durham Cathedral and the buildings around palace Green, including Durham Castle in 1986 were designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Durham Cathedral has featured in many films and TV shows, including the early Harry Potter movies, Elizabeth and Marvel’s Avengers Endgame. TV shows include ITV’s North East set detective series Inspector George Gentley.

Durham Cathedral Transfiguration Window Greeting Card, comes in a clear cello bag, with a white envelope. The size of the greeting card is 210x148mm. The greeting card is left Blank Inside for your own message.

This greeting card from Durham Cathedral is produced by kind permission of the Chapter House of Durham Cathedral. This is one of a wide range of photographs taken inside the Cathedral of both the architecture and the stained glass windows. For more Durham Cathedral interior photographs click here.
