Greys Monument Acrylic Painting. Abstract acrylic painting of Grey’s Monument in the centre of Newcastle. Grey’s Monument was built to commemorate Charles Grey, a local politician who was British Prime Minister from 1830 to 1834. The monument was erected to acclaim Earl Grey, for the passing of the Great Reform Act of 1832 and stands at the head of Grey Street. It consists of a statue of Lord Grey standing atop a Roman Doric column on a pedestal of local sandstone, the Monument is 135-foot-high (41 m) in total.

Yellow, red and black are the prominent colours in this abstract painting, created using multiple techniques by North East Artist, Louisa E. Taylor. The Monument stands in the centre of this painting, with the buildings around it of Eldon Square, Monument Mall and the Waterstones bookshop. The painting has a fiery sky, with reds and yellows surrounding the Monument. The buildings are a dark black colour, while the base is more muted, mixing white paint into the mix. These acrylic paintings were produced during the first Lockdown of 2020.

The Monument can be found at the meeting place of two of the city’s main streets, Grainger Street and Grey Street. It has its own Metro train stop and is also the central entrance to Eldon Square shopping centre. In this photograph the Waterstones bookshop building is visible, behind the Monument. To the right is the Monument Mall shopping centre. The Monument has a spiral staircase inside, on certain weekends during the year, visitors are able to climb to the top, with fantastic views of the Monument area, looking down to the historic Grainger Street and Grey Street which heads down to the quayside.

Greys Monument Acrylic Painting, the print of the painting is printed on heavy weight 240gsm matte paper, which cuts down on reflections. Prints are made on an Epson P9000 printer with 11 inks, these give fantastic depth of colour and neutral and punchy black and white prints.

Please note this print comes mounted but not framed. The print comes in an off white, textured mount, ready for framing. Each mounted print is packed with a backing card and is cello bagged to keep it clean. Each mount is titled and signed by the artist.
