With Durham Cathedral, the Castle and the skyline are the main elements in this watercolour painting by local North East artist Louisa E. Taylor. This Durham skyline, watercolour painting has mostly blue tones, with greens and purples. The yellow sun adds a bright warmth to this painting. With the warmer yellows and oranges in the sky, contrasting with cooler blues of the buildings below. The buildings of the Durham skyline are painted with solid blocks of colours, in blues, greens and purples. The ‘Splash’ effect flows down from the body of the buildings, to the bottom of the painting and into the corners. The sky is painted with a pale watercolour colour wash. There is just a hint of ‘Splash’ paint in the sky. The large setting sun is above and to the left of Durham Cathedral and the city rooftops.
