A watercolour painted ‘Splash’ picture of the Durham City skyline. With Durham Cathedral, the Castle and then St. Nicholas Church spire, forming the skyline. These are the main building elements in this watercolour painting by local North East artist Louisa E. Taylor. This Durham skyline, watercolour painting has mostly blue tones, with oranges and pinks. The buildings in this painting are mostly a solid blue colour. With patches of lighter blue in some of the buildings and then different shades of blue paint has been used for the ‘splash’, The right hand side of the painting has the most ‘splash’ in the buildings. The watercolour paint used on the buildings has been diluted at the bottom, this gives a softer spread to the paint, while the outline of the buildings are nice and crisp. The splash in the sky is mostly blue and purple. The bottom part of the painting gets warmer colours added, including oranges and reds..
