Sun on Durham Riverbanks Card. A5 greeting card, with a photograph of Durham Cathedral and the riverbanks, taken in winter. This photograph was taken, just passed Framwellgate Bridge while walking towards the ‘Pink House’ and Prebends Bridge. This photograph was taken mid day. The sun is still rising above the trees and can be seen poking through the branches on the far righthand side of the photograph. There are some rim lit figures walking towards me on the footpath, having walked past the ‘Pink House’. While Durham Cathedral dominates as the main point of interest in this photograph, the Cathedral and the far bank side are in shadow, from this angle as the sun is not high enough to illuminate them yet. The sunlight is striking the bank side where I am stood taking the photograph, lightening up the riverbank which is still white and frosty. The reeds along the edge of the river are backlit and really standout against the dark waters of the River Wear behind.
The Fulling Mill Museum is just visible on the far riverbank side. After it, just above the wear on of the boathouses along the river, it’s roof can be seen gleaming in the sunlight. Tucked away in shadow in the distance is Prebends Bridge. The bridge is located above the gleaming, sparkly water, flowing over the wear and catching the sunlight. A few tree trunks and the edge of the footpath on the far side are catching some sunlight. This gives a hint of light and colour in what is a dark part of the photograph.
