Autumn Colours Durham Cathedral Fridge Magnet. Plastic fridge magnet with a close up photograph of Durham Cathedral, taken from Wharton Park. The Autumnal colours of the tree leaves surrounding the Cathedral are lit up by the late afternoon sunlight. This provides a really bright, colourful base to this photograph. Part of Durham Castle is visible on the lefthand side of this photograph. This photograph of Durham Cathedral was taken in early November, late in the afternoon when the sun was starting to set. This warm sunlight has brought out the autumnal colours of the tree leaves enclosing the Cathedral and Castle. From this angel the afternoon sunlight strikes the back of the Cathedral and the main Cathedral towers and Galliee Chapel. The sunlight gives a warmth to the stonework, while the rest of the building has strong deep shadows. This is my favourite viewpoint to photograph Durham Cathedral, this close-up photograph was taken with a telephoto lens, to get in close. Using this type of lens, compresses the photograph so that the hills behind the Cathedral appear closer than they really are. A bright sky with banks of white clouds are passing behind the Cathedral’s Bell Tower. This helps to make the tower really standout. This photograph was taken late afternoon in November, this is the perfect time of day to have the sunlight at the best angle to illuminate the Cathedral and Castle.

Durham Cathedral has featured in many films and TV shows, including the early Harry Potter movies and Marvel’s Avengers Endgame. TV shows include ITV’s Inspector George Gently, detective show, which is set in the North East.
