Christmas Bauble Newcastle & Angel of the North

Christmas Bauble Newcastle & Angel of the North. A flat, round, double sided metal Christmas Bauble with a sunset photograph of the Newcastle Gateshead Quayside on one side and a photograph of the Angel of the North on the reverse. The photograph of the Newcastle Gateshead Quayside taken at twilight. The sun has set, leaving a vivid deep blue sky, contrasting against the warm artificial lights, from the street lights and mix of colours from inside the Sage Gateshead. This is framed inside the span of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge’s arch and its reflection in the River Tyne. Standing just passed the Pitcher and Piano restaurant and bar on the quayside and using the quayside walkway to create the left to right composition for the viewers eyes to move through this photograph, from the Millennium Bridge and Sage Gateshead to the Tyne Bridge in the distance.

This photograph of the Angel of the North, was taken on a bright, colourful summers afternoon. The statue of the Angel is surrounded on both sides by tree branches. The tree branches and the wings of the Angel, are catching the afternoon light and provide a warm colour contrast against the bright blue of the sky and the large white cloud behind Antony Gormley’s creation. The Angel of the North, has quickly become an iconic image of the North East and is recognised all over the world

The Angel of the North, located beside the A1, Western bypass has quickly become an iconic image of the North East and is recognised all over the world. This has become an iconic part of the North East. The statue is seen by a motorist every second and is the most viewed piece of public artwork in the country. The Angel of the North is located on the former site of a coal mine in Gateshead. It was constructed to celebrate the North East’s industrial heritage from coal mining, ship building and the birth of the railways and the transformation into the information and technology age. The Angel was constructed in Hartlepool, it was rusted and then sealed to prevent further ageing and rusting. This process is what has created the copper colour and what some locals now refer to as old rusty.

Newcastle Christmas Bauble, the size of the bauble is 73mm wide and 85mm deep. This bauble comes with a golden metal chain to hang the bauble. Text on the bauble reads ‘Newcastle’.
