Christmas Card Red Angel. A5 size Christmas card with a watercolour paint Christmas design, based on the popular Red Angel painting by local, North East artist Louisa E. Taylor. This is an image from her ‘Splash of Toon’ range of paintings, depicting iconic North East landmarks and views. Abstract watercolour painting of the Angel of the North statue, standing beside the A1 motorway. The statue designed by Antony Gormley and completed in 1998 has come to be an iconic symbol of the North East. It is the most viewed piece of art in the country.
Red, yellow and green are the prominent colours in this abstract painting. The two figures at the base of the Angel, really give a sense of scale of the size of the statue. The Splash paint seams to explode out from the sculpture of the Angel into the sky. The base of the painting has different bands of colour running through it. This painting of the Angel of the North, is unique in Louisa’s ‘Splash of Toon’ range of paintings as it only includes one landmark from the North East and is not a montage. This approach is carried over into her ‘Black Splash’ paintings and feature only one single iconic image.
The watercolour painting for this card adds a Christmas Tree to the regular image, this has been placed underneath the end of the Angel’s wing. This painting shows two figures holding hands while they look up and take in the size and grace of Antony Gormley’s stunning creation.
The size of the Christmas Card, is 210x148mm. Each card comes with a white envelope and is cello bagged. The Christmas Card is left blank inside, for your own message.
