Durham Castle and Cathedral Panoramic Fridge Magnet. Panoramic plastic fridge magnet with a summertime photograph of Durham Castle and Cathedral, taken from Wharton Park. Bright evening summertime light, provides a warm yellow colour to Durham Castle and the Cathedral. This is contrasted against the darker greens of the trees that provide the base to this photograph. This my favourite viewpoint to photograph the Cathedral and Castle. There is a wide array of views from this location, which has undergone a major renovation of it’s facilities. Different times of the year provide different colours from spring, when the cherry trees are in bloom, to autumn, when the leaves are turning and have fantastic colours. Afternoon and evening are the best times of day, for the sunlight at Wharton Park, to photograph the Cathedral and Castle.
This photograph was taken on my way to photograph the evenings entertainment as part of this years Durham Regatta. This photograph is always popular, with pleasing warm light on both the Castle, which is surrounded by the trees and Durham Cathedral, dominating the skyline above the city. This is also a popular ‘train spotter’ location, due to it’s fantastic view looking down onto the railway viaduct just before Durham Railway Station. This panoramic view, includes slightly more of both Durham Castle and Durham Cathedral, while cropping the trees on the bottom and reducing the amount of sky. This really focuses you in on the Cathedral and Castle. This is a brighter and more colourful photograph than the one used in the standard magnet.
The size of the magnet is 145x50mm. The magnet has a stand in the back which pushes into a slot in the back so that the magnet can standup. Text on the magnet reads ‘Durham’.
