Durham Cherry Tree Magnet. Plastic fridge magnet with a March, springtime photograph of Durham Castle and Cathedral, taken from Wharton Park. The late evening light, provide a warm pink colour to Durham Castle and Cathedral. This is complimented in the large pink and white cherry tree blossom, from the Cherry Tree below Durham Castle. While I have photographed the Cathedral from this location, many times over the years, this was the first time I had seen the cherry tree in blossom here.
This is my favourite location in Durham, to photograph the Cathedral. Seeing the warm pink light from the setting sun, I knew this would provide a great photograph of the Castle and Cathedral. Seeing the cherry tree at Wharton Park in full blossom, brightens up what could have turned out to be a dark and dull part of the photograph. It is always amazing going back to a popular location, at a different time of year, that the view and conditions can be completely different. A short telephoto lens has been used for this photograph, so as to include Durham Castle as well as the Cathedral. The sky in this picture is quite plain, with just a hint of colour and tone, this contrasts well with the Cathedral and the cherry tree below. A busy sky would have been a distraction to all of the other elements that comprise this beautiful photograph.
Durham Cherry Tree Magnet, the size of the fridge magnet is 76x50mm. The magnet has a stand in the back which pushes into a slot in the back so that the magnet can standup. Text on the magnet reads ‘Durham’. We also do this in a panoramic magnet format. This shows slightly more on the sides but less cherry tree and sky.
