Christmas Bauble Newcastle Snow Angel & Quayside. A round double sided plastic Christmas Bauble with a winter photograph of the Angel of the North in the snow on one side and a photograph of the Newcastle Gateshead Quayside on the other. The front photograph is of the Newcastle Gateshead Quayside covered in thick snow. The photograph was taken looking from the Guild Hall, along the Newcastle side of the quayside pathway towards Tyne Bridge, the Sage Gateshead, Baltic Arts Centre and the Gateshead Millennium Bridge can be made out in the distance. Tyne Bridge really dominates this photograph was it is the most prominate part of the picture. All of the other buildings and bridges sit along the quayside underneath Tyne Bridge. The black and white processing of this photograph enhances the cold, stark winter look of this photograph and this makes the bridges and buildings more defined. The footpath on the Newcastle side of the quayside is covered in thick snow, with some footprints from earlier walkers in the day. This was an unusual photograph to get of the quayside, because it it beside the river often prevents too much snow settling. This is one of our popular viewpoints to photograph the quayside and Tyne Bridge. The position of the different elements in the photograph allow an easy progression for the viewer, from front to back.

On the reverse is a stunning winter photograph of the Angel of the North in the snow. The tree branches on both sides of the Angel and the ground are covered in snow. Snow flakes can be seen falling, best highlighted against the dark body of the statue. The figure at the base of the Angel really helps the viewer to realise the scale of Antony Gormley’s creation. I was very lucky getting the man walking through this scene. I had been taking quite a few photographs before hand, then the man appeared just in the perfect spot to complete the photograph. Sometimes you do just get lucky, but you do have to be in the right place at the right time.

Newcastle Christmas Bauble, the size of the bauble is 83mm wide and 85mm deep. This bauble comes with a silver metal chain to hang the bauble. Text on the Newcastle quayside photograph reads, ‘Merry Christmas’
