This Durham Riverbanks snow globe has two different photographs inside. One one side is a summer photograph of the Cathedral and riverbanks beside the River Wear. Durham Cathedral stands majestically above the trees. Below the towers of Durham Cathedral, is located the Fulling Mill Museum, beside the wear, just poking through the trees. Nice bright summertime photograph of this iconic view, taken standing beside the ‘Pink House’ beside the wear. This summers day has a bright blue sky and attractive big white fluffy clouds passing behind the towers of the Cathedral. This bright sky, helps to make the towers of the Cathedral, really stand out against the sky. The sunlight is catching the front and sides of the towers of Durham Cathedral and the tops of the trees along the banks of the River Wear. This stops the green tree leaves looking too dark and heavy in the middle of this photograph. Around mid day this the best time of day to take the Cathedral and riverbanks from this viewpoint, otherwise the sun is not high enough to light up the trees along riverbanks.

The photograph on the reverse side, is a summertime photograph of Durham Castle and Cathedral, taken from Wharton Park. The bright evening summertime light, provides a warm yellow colour to Durham Castle and the Cathedral. This is contrasted against the darker greens of the trees that provide the base to this photograph. This my favourite viewpoint to photograph the Cathedral and Castle. There is a wide array of views from this location, which has undergone a major renovation of it’s facilities. Different times of the year provide different colours from spring, when the cherry trees are in bloom, to autumn, when the leaves are turning and have fantastic colours. Afternoon and evening are the best times of day, for the sunlight at Wharton Park, to photograph the Cathedral and Castle as the sun is at the perfect angle to illuminate this side of the buildings and the trees surrounding them.
