St Mary’s Dawn Card. Free UK shipping. This is an A5 size greeting card. Dramatic dawn photograph of the lighthouse at Whitey Bay, located on St. Mary’s island. This photograph, was taken at 6am on a February morning. With the camera mounted on a tripod and a combination of a Lee Filters Big Stopper (10 stops) and a 3 stop graduated grey filter for the sky. This combination produces a softness to the water and movement to the clouds above the lighthouse, so it looks like the clouds are bursting from the lighthouse. With blue / grey clouds in the sky above the lighthouse and bright purple light above the clouds, produce a dramatic sky. These colours are reflected in the waters of the North Sea below.
A rocky shoreline forms a dark grey base to this photograph and the sweep of the rocks, takes the viewers eye from front to back, resting on St. Mary’s Lighthouse in the distance.
St. Mary’s lighthouse has been restored and now has a visitor centre and shop, cafe and you can climb the 137 steps to the top of the lighthouse for a fantastic view of the North East coastline. Do check tide times for safe crossing times over the causeway to the Island.
